Climate

Weather: the state of the atmosphere at a given time and place (relate to varibles such as temp, precipitation, wind, humidity, baromtric pressure etc.) over a short period of time, such as a day or a week.

Season: anual changes in the average weather condition which are based on the change in amount of sunlight that the region of earth recieves during that time of year. (last about 3 months)

Meteorology: science dealing with the atmosphere and changes that take place in the atmosphere.

Meteorogists: use technologies to help them predict the weather.

Climate: the usual pattern of weather in a large region over a long period of time (eg. 30 years or more of weather data collection).

Factors Affecting Climate:

Why do climate zones exist?

Climate is a region is caused by a varirety of factor including...

- distance from the equator (latitude)

- presence of large bodies of water

- presence of ocean or air current

land formations

- height above sea level (altitude)

Atmosphere is made up of layers of gas wrapped around the earth:

- trphere- mix of gas

- hydrosphere- water, rivers etc

- lithosphere- earths crust (ground)

-living things- plants and animalS

The Influence of Human Activity on the Environment:

1. Burning fossil fuels ( cal, oil etc.) release carbon dioxide into atmosphere

2. Deforestation

- burning timber increases the level of carbon dioxide in the air.

less trees mean less carbon dioxide absorbed for photosynthesis.

- soil is eroded as it is exposed to the wild and rain.

- less water is transpired into the atmosphere.

- habitatd are destroyed.
